Toy Story 3 is the
third in a series of movies about a young boy named Andy growing up with his
toys. In this movie, Andy is getting ready to go off to college. His mom tells
him that he has to clean out his room, including all of his old toys that he hasn't
played with in YEARS. His mom gives him three choices: put them in the attic,
give them to the local daycare, or throw them away. He decides that he wants to
take Woody (played by Tom Hanks) to college with him and put the rest of them
in the attic. The whole idea of them getting put in the attic goes wrong. They
end up getting stuck on the curb, and Woody tries to save them. The toys end up
escaping somehow and then they find themselves in the trunk of Andy's mom's car
on their way To Sunny Side Daycare.
Sunny Side ends up
being pretty much torturous. The kids treat them with so much disrespect
because of their age. They don't know what else to do with them. They draw on
them, lick them, bite them, and so much more. Lotso (played by Ned Beatty) puts
them all in the room of younger kids, letting none of them but Buzz Lightyear
(played by Tim Allen) into the less chaotic room of children. The reason Buzz
was allowed into that room was because he was put on demo mode by Lotso, making
him believe he is really a space ranger. Lotso, Buzz, and some other toys such
as Big Baby and Ken take all of the toys captive in bins that are acting as
cages because they all tried to escape from the daycare. While stuck in the
bins, they all create a plan to try to escape out of Sunny Side.
All of the toys have
a part in the escape plan including Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, even though Mrs.
Potato Head is missing one eye. There were many steps included in their plan.
One of them was trapping the monkey who had all eyes on the daycare at night so
no toys could escape. Another step in the plan was Barbie tricking Ken. She
told him that she wanted him back but little did he know that really, she was
going to trap him to make him talk. Barbie got what she needed out of him and
dressed up as Ken, stealing the Buzz Lightyear manual so they could set him
back to his original version. After all of these steps, and more, they ended up
making it out of the daycare, through the playground, and to the trash chute,
nearly making it home to Andy before he goes to college.
All of toys end up
stuck in a trash truck, on their way to the dump. When they get there, they
have to avoid many obstacles, including not getting chopped into pieces, saving
Lotso from being stuck under some golf clubs, and being burned in an incinerator.
Woody and Buzz save Lotso from under the golf clubs, and nearly risks their
lives. Later in their experience at the dump, they expect Lotso to do the same,
but he doesn't. The evil in him comes back out and he nearly kills the group of
toys. They all get knocked off a conveyor belt and fall into a funnel leading
to the incinerator. They realize how close they are to death, so they all grab
hands to live their last moments together. Little did they know, their lives
were about to be saved.
Three of the toys
from their group were somehow separated and found their way to "the
claw". The three little aliens saw their friends about to be burned to
death and used the claw to save their lives. They picked them up, along with
tons of trash, just seconds away from their death. Woody, Buzz, or any of the
other toys could have thanked them enough. Woody then saw a local trash guy
that he recognized from Andy's neighborhood. They jumped on the truck he was
with and found their way back to Andy's house before he left for college.
They get to Andy's
house wondering if he has left yet. Mrs. Potato Head realizes she can check
because her other eye is somewhere in Andy's room. She covers the eye she has
and is able to see through the other one, discovering that Andy hasn't left
yet. They get into his room before he leaves. They pack themselves into their
correct boxes. Once Andy goes upstairs into his room, he discovers a note on
one of the boxes that has an address on it. Andy drives to the address that is
on the sticky note, only to discover that the house of the daycare's owner. She
has a young daughter that is playing with toys in the front yard and he
realizes that she will take very good care of his old toys. Andy gives her the
toys, knowing she will put them to better use to them then he will while in
college.
The use of songs
such as "Le Freak" by Chic and "You've Got A Friend In Me"
by Randy Newman were used and placed nicely in the movie. "Le Freak"
was, in my opinion, a song just used in the moment that they had for Ken to dance
too when he was trying on outfits for Barbie. "You've Got A Friend In
Me" was a song used to symbolize the toys relationship with Andy. It was,
I believe, used in all three movies and is that song where you hear it and
AUTOMATICALLY think of Toy Story. I also really liked the use of Disney's adult
humor in the movie. It allowed people of all ages to enjoy this fun and
entertaining movie.
